Hello, I'm Emily

I am a freelance author-illustrator currently living in Portland, Oregon, USA. My illustrations are mostly done in watercolor and pen, but a few are done digitally.

I spent my childhood in Mozambique and Malawi. My days (after school) consisted of eating green mangoes with salt, creating little worlds with clay from the termite mound in our yard, building houses with discarded bricks and mud, and playing many different games with my friends. My illustrations and stories are inspired by this childhood and the beautiful countries I love so much. I long for a world where there are more children's books that show African kids the world they live in in an uplifting and beautiful way. I am excited to do my part in making that happen.

These days when I am not working on children's illustrations and stories, I am either drinking tea, doing my day (and night) job as a birth doula, or listening to audiobooks while gardening.
